One of Australia’s most important wine regions, Coonawarra also represents the genesis of Penfolds cool climate story.

Chief Winemaker Max Schubert recognised that the structure of Coonawarra fruit and the warm generosity of Barossa were inherently complementary, together creating what he described as an “all round and balanced wine”.

Famed for Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, Coonawarra contributes fruit to Grange, Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon, Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz and Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon. In warmer vintages, Coonawarra – with neighbouring Padthaway and Wrattonbully – provides a vital sense of balance.

Bin 128 Shiraz stands as our single region expression of Coonawarra’s restraint, delivering spice laden, red fruit elegance and vibrancy.

Framed by the peaks of the Snowy Mountains, Tumbarumba is home to one of Australia’s coldest grape-growing climates.

High-altitude vineyards allow Chardonnay to ripen gently, building intense citrus flavour around a taut, mineral core. The region provides pristine fruit for Yattarna and Bin 311 Chardonnays, and our fine-boned Cellar Reserve Pinot Noir.

Bordering the Pacific Ocean and regularly blanketed by cooling fogs, Sonoma’s mild climate yields refined and structured Cabernet Sauvignon. The fruit balances power with elegance, adding supple texture and savoury depth to wines such as Bin 600 Cabernet Shiraz.
