Penfolds Asia Pacific Scholarship 2024
Scholarship recipient announced at WSET Graduation in London
At Penfolds, we are passionate about supporting bold and curious individuals to learn and thrive with the hope that they help shape the future of the wine industry.
On Tuesday 23 April, the Penfolds Asia Pacific Scholarship was awarded to Yawei Shen at the WSET (Wine and Spirit Education Trust) Graduation at Guildhall, London.
The scholarship, valued at £3,000, is awarded to the student who achieves the highest score in the WSET Level 4 Diploma of Wine and completes the required exams in the APAC region. Completing her Diploma through ASC Fine Wine, Yawei commented that studying a Diploma was one of her education milestones and will use the scholarship to continue her studies.
"WSET provides a systematic course including both theory and practice, covering different categories (still, sparkling, fortified, spirit) and most of the principal wine countries and regions in the world. I hope to start my learning with this professional knowledge and keep future study in line with this model."

Yawei, who is based in Shanghai, China, is a lecturer at Jiufeng Wine Trading focusing on wine regions, specifically Germany, Italy, Argentina, and Chile, and educates students on regional climate principal varieties, grape growing, wine styles, tasting notes, and how to assess the quality of wine.
Yawei hopes to use the scholarship to complete a Masters of Wine and continue to use her passion and knowledge in the sector to support China’s wine industry.

"I envision that more and more people here are able to know about wine history/culture and acquire more and more high-quality wines (both imported and local)."
