Penfolds II is a wine made in collaboration with our trusted partner Dourthe – one of Bordeaux’s most respected winemaking groups with a history stretching back to 1840. Sensitively blending grapes from Bordeaux and South Australia, Penfolds II delivers a wine that remains true to the winemaking ethos of both houses, while imagining the possibilities of a world without frontiers.

About Penfolds Dourthe

The creation of this multi-country cabernet merlot began as a quest to create something real, different, and aspiringly lofty, together with our trusted partner Dourthe Bordeaux.

The French component of Penfolds II is sourced from vineyards in Bordeaux, while the Australian component comes from vineyards across South Australia. The components are then carefully blended and bottled in South Australia.

The inaugural Penfolds II release, a blend of cabernet shiraz merlot, was comprised of fruit from the 2019 vintage in both the northern and southern hemispheres. The following year’s release marked our first MV attempt – with 2020 merlot from the soils of Bordeaux blended with 2021 cabernet sauvignon from distant vineyards in South Australia.
